Forest Den Nurture Class

     What is the Forest Den?

The Forest Den is the Nurture Class within St. Clare's Primary School.

Some children start school with confidence and enthusiasm but, for a number of reasons, a few children find it difficult to settle or adjust to life in the classroom.

Some of these children can benefit from becoming part of the Nurture Class within our school.

What is a Nurture Class?

A Nurture Class is a separate classroom within the school, within which children are able to learn though similar experiences to those that they experience at home e.g. discussing feelings, sharing breakfast, cooking, art and design, trips and excursions and learning through play. The children are still part of their own class, but spend most of the afternoon working with the two Nurture Class staff within a small group of around 6 children.

If a child is being considered for the Nurture Class, specially trained staff will gather information and work with parents/carers to decide if this is the right kind of support. Nurture staff will also work with other staff in the child's classroom to ensure that he/she is well supported there too.

It is important to note that Nurture Classes don't suit all children who might need support; some children may require further assessment, involving other agencies, to plan the right support.
