School Closure Arrangements

Emergency Closure Arrangements

The safety of our pupils, families and staff is always our highest priority. In the event of severe weather, a building issue or another emergency, the Headteacher will follow Glasgow City Council procedures and guidance when deciding whether the school can remain open safely.

Please read the information below so that you know what to expect if an emergency closure or early collection is required.

Please do not travel to the school to collect your child unless you have received instructions from the school.

Communication with Families

Updates may be shared through:

  • Text messages to parents and carers
  • The school website
  • The school X account, @StClaresDrum
  • Glasgow City Council updates, where appropriate

Families should check these communication channels regularly during periods of severe weather or disruption.

During an Emergency Closure

  • Children will remain safely supervised by school staff.
  • Families will receive instructions about collection arrangements.
  • Children will only be released in line with the arrangements communicated by the school.
  • Emergency contacts may be contacted if parents or carers cannot be reached.
  • Any children awaiting collection will continue to be supervised.

Extreme Circumstances

In exceptional circumstances, some children may need to remain in school beyond the normal end of the school day if safe travel or collection is not immediately possible.

Senior staff will work with Glasgow City Council and other relevant services to ensure that children remain safe and supervised until suitable arrangements can be made.

School Reopening

Following any closure, the Headteacher will liaise with Glasgow City Council and assess whether the school can reopen safely.

Updates will be shared through the school's usual communication channels, including:

  • Text messages
  • The school website
  • The school X account

Remote Learning

If the school is required to remain closed for more than one day, remote-learning arrangements may be introduced where appropriate. Information, learning materials and communication may be shared through Showbie, the school website and other agreed school channels.

Emergency Contacts

Please ensure that the school always has up-to-date telephone numbers and emergency contact information for your child.

Where possible, families are encouraged to nominate a trusted friend, neighbour or relative who could collect or care for their child in exceptional circumstances.

Changes to contact details should be shared with the school office as soon as possible.
