School Closure Arrangements

Emergency Closure Arrangements

The safety of our pupils, families and staff is always our highest priority. In the event of severe weather, building issues or any other emergency situation, the Head Teacher will follow Glasgow City Council procedures and guidance when making decisions about school closure.

Please read the information below so that you know what to expect should an emergency closure ever be required.

Communication with Families

  • School Website
  • School X Account (@StClaresDrum)
  • Text Messages to Parents and Carers

Families should check these regularly during periods of severe weather or disruption.

During a Closure

  • Children remain safely supervised.
  • Pupils stay in class while collections take place.
  • Parents collect children via designated exits.
  • Remaining pupils are supervised by staff.
  • Emergency contacts may be contacted if required.

Extreme Circumstances

In exceptional situations where travel is not possible, some pupils may need to remain in school beyond the normal school day.

Senior staff and Glasgow City Council will work together to ensure pupils remain safe and supervised until suitable arrangements can be made.

School Re-opening

Following any closure, the Head Teacher will liaise with Glasgow City Council and assess whether the school can safely re-open.

Updates will be shared via:

  • School Website
  • School X Account
  • Text Messages

Remote Learning

If the school is required to close for more than one day, our Remote Learning Policy will be implemented. Learning materials and communication will be shared through Showbie, the school website and our X account.

Emergency Contacts

Please ensure that the school always has up-to-date emergency contact information.

If possible, we encourage families to nominate a trusted friend, neighbour or relative who could collect or care for their child in exceptional circumstances.

Changes to contact details can be shared through the school office by telephone or in writing.
